Frequently Asked Questions

  • A: Student loans are granted at the discretion of the Loan Committee and based on the availability of funds. You probably qualify if you are a US citizen or eligible noncitizen attending a private or public nonprofit Texas-based college or university, have a GPA of 2.0 or better, and have completed 24 hours of college credit.   • A: The process normally takes 4 to 6 weeks from the time you submit a completed application to when you receive the funds requested.

  • A: No, there is no application fee.

  • A: The loan has a 2% fixed interest rate.

  • A: No. Your student loan will be non-interest bearing while you are attending a Texas based College or University and maintaining the following terms and conditions:

    • You must maintain full time status, 12 hours for undergraduate studies, and 9 hours for graduate studies.

    • You must maintain the minimum grade point average of 2.0 for undergraduate studies, and 3.0 for graduate studies.

    • You must send at the end of each semester a transcript (unofficial) and proof of enrollment for the upcoming term to University Accounting Service, the group that services Franklin Lindsay Loans. Create your account at https://uasconnect.com/ and upload your documents there. Or, email the documents, referencing your UAS loan account information, to uasconnect@tsico.comYou must be attending a Texas based College or University that has been accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

    • Interest begins accruing on the first day of the sixth month after leaving school.

  • A: On the first day of the sixth month after you stop attending school full time (medical residency does not qualify as full time student status) interest will begin accruing and all of your student loans from the Franklin Lindsay Student Aid Fund will be consolidated. You may pay off the loan in full at this time or begin making payments. All student loans must be paid in full within 10 years of leaving school.

  • A: No, your Franklin Lindsay loan cannot be consolidated with loans from other organizations, public or private. If you apply for renewal loans from Franklin Lindsay, however, then these will automatically be consolidated so that you will have only one payment to make to Franklin Lindsay each month during the repayment period.

  • A: Each spring you will need to submit a completed renewal application to your committee member. While you have until June 1st to complete the renewal process, we recommend that you complete this process as soon as possible because funds are limited.

  • A: These reference letters should be from people who have known you over a long enough period of time to have formulated opinions regarding your character and abilities. The letters should attest to your good character and strong abilities. We suggest that you reach out to people from a variety of relationships: employers, teachers, mentors, supervisors, etc.

  • A: No. This is a nonprofit foundation dedicated to assisting students of Texas colleges and universities in their pursuit of higher education. The program has assisted thousands of undergraduate and graduate students in Texas since 1958.

  • A: Loan Committee Members are volunteers from around the state who help facilitate the loan process by meeting with applicants to explain the loan process and answer questions. They will assist you in the application process and are responsible for reviewing and approving the applications.

  • A: University Accounting Service, the group that services Franklin Lindsay loans, may not know that you're still in school. To ensure that they do, send to them proof of your enrollment. An unofficial transcript and any official document from your school that verifies your status as a current full-time student will work (such as your course schedule for the upcoming term). Create your UAS account at https://uasconnect.com/ and upload your documents there. Or, email the documents, referencing your UAS loan account information, to uasconnect@tsico.com. You can call UAS (1-844-870-8701) for more information on how to make sure that your loan is placed into deferment status.
